Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reiterated the government's stand before a parliamentary committee on Monday that the decision to stop military actions actions against Pakistan was taken at a bilateral level, without any foreign interference.
Sources said that Foreign Secretary was responding to queries of some opposition members regarding US President Donald Trump's repeated statements regarding his administration's role in stopping the conflict.
Sources added that the Foreign Secretary also clarified government's stance saying that the conflict between India and Pakistan was always in the conventional domain, and there was no nuclear signalling by the neighbouring country.
When some opposition MPs asked if Pakistan had used Chinese platforms in the conflict, sources claimed that Misri said it did not matter as India hammered Pakistani air bases.
The meeting of Parliament's Standing Committee on External Affairs was chaired by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. The meeting was attended by senior Parliamentarians including Trinamool Congress's Abhishek Banerjee, Indian National Congress' Rajeev Shukla and Deepender Hooda, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, and Bharatiya Janata Party's Aparajita Sarangi and Arun Govil.
This meeting comes against the backdrop of the Indian Armed Forces carrying out Operation Sindoor to avenge the Pahalgam attack where 26 people were killed by Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba's offshoot The Resistance Front (TRF) on 22 April, and the subsequent military actions that followed between the two countries.
India and Pakistan reached an understanding on halting all military actions on May 10.
