Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday launched a blistering attack on RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family, setting the stage for a fiery political showdown ahead of the Bihar assembly elections.
Speaking at a massive rally in Muzaffarpur, Shah said if Tejashwi Yadav, Lalu’s son, comes to power, Bihar would once again descend into 'jungle raj,' a phrase often used by the BJP to describe the RJD’s earlier rule marked by alleged lawlessness.
‘Three ministries for crime’
Shah didn’t hold back as he mocked the RJD’s return bid. “If Lalu’s son becomes the chief minister, Bihar will see three new ministries, for murder, kidnapping, and extortion,” he told the crowd, drawing loud cheers from BJP supporters, PTI reported.
He contrasted this with the NDA’s promise of governance and development, declaring, “Your votes for NDA will save Bihar from jungle raj. Efforts are underway to bring it back with new faces, but we won’t let that happen.”
Flood-free Bihar promise under NDA
Amid the sharp barbs, Shah also outlined the NDA’s development vision for Bihar. According to PTI, he announced that if the alliance is voted to power again, it would set up a dedicated ministry to control floods, a long-standing challenge for the state’s northern districts.
“If voted to power, the NDA government will make Bihar flood-free. We’ll create a separate ministry to tackle the issue permanently,” Shah said, framing the promise as a cornerstone of the coalition’s election manifesto.
‘PM and CM posts not vacant’
Turning his attack national, Shah took aim at Congress leader Sonia Gandhi alongside Lalu, accusing both of trying to pass down leadership to their sons, Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav.
“Lalu Prasad and Sonia Gandhi want to make their sons chief minister and prime minister. But both posts are not vacant,” Shah quipped, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to enjoy massive public trust.
He also praised Modi for “making India secure, safe, and prosperous” and launching several welfare schemes that, he said, transformed the lives of crores of citizens.
