Jaish-e-Muhammed (JeM) founder Maulana Masood Azhar has suffered a heart attack, News18 Uttar Pradesh has reported quoting sources.
According to the report, Azhar, whose JeM was behind the deadly Pulwama attack in India, was in Afghanistan when his health deteriorated. He is being shifted to a hospital in Pakistan for treatment, sources said.
India was forced to release Masood Azhar in 1999 following the hijacking of IC-814 plane.
Azhar was the mastermind of the 2001 terrorist attack on the Indian Parliament. He is also known for his involvement in the Pathankot attack in 2016, Pulawama attack in 2019 and various other terror activities in India.
In September 2019, India branded Azhar and another Pakistan-based terrorist, Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, as 'individual terrorists' under the stringent anti-terror law UAPA.
