Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader L Murugan on Thursday advised TVK chief Vijay to learn from the principles of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh which is celebrating its centenary this year.
"RSS volunteers have been with Tamil Nadu during the tsunami and the Covid-19 pandemic. If AIADMK listens to the RSS, it is a welcome thing. RSS is a 100-year-old organisation. Vijay should change himself and learn from the principles of the RSS. Vijay should learn from the RSS before making a taunt. He should be the first one to come and learn from it," Murugan said.
The remarks came after Vijay said at the party's second state conference in Madurai last week that the TVK was averse to joining any alliance for the Tamil Nadu elections, including the BJP, AIADMK or the ruling DMK.
"We can't be subservient to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. On the other hand, one group which identifies itself as a secular front has been hoodwinking the people. We can't lose ourselves to be part of any alliance. Our movement is held together by self-respect," Vijay said last Thursday.
The actor-turned-politician further declared that the contest in the Tamil Nadu elections, slated to be held next year, was between the DMK and the TVK and that there was "no one in between".
"The contest is between us and them. There is no one in between. Our only political enemy is DMK," he said at the packed rally last week, adding that his party's ideologies were at odds with that of the BJP.
The remarks were seen as Vijay's dismissal of rumours around the TVK's possible alliance with the AIADMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu.
Declaring BJP as his "only ideological enemy" and the DMK, the "only ideological enemy", Vijay also made it clear that he was unwilling to play second fiddle to the state's established Dravidian parties like the AIADMK and the DMK.
"I am a lion. I'm marking my territory. The TVK is an unstoppable force which is here to dominate," he had said.
The actor also took multiple potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address and accused the BJP of meting out injustice to southern states.
"You think that you can rule till 2029 by intimidating corrupt parties that have no public support. No water will stick to the lotus leaf. How can the people of Tamil Nadu stick to it? Since it cannot win even a single seat here, the BJP government is cheating Tamil Nadu by doing nothing. Is this right, Modij?" Vijay asked.
"PM Modi, you are in power for the third time. You came to power to do good for the entire people, right? Or to conspire against the Muslim and minority people? People have many questions to ask you. I will ask a few questions on their behalf. Modiji, please return the Katchatheevu that was given to Sri Lanka to stop Tamil Nadu fishermen from being captured by the Sri Lankan Navy. It pains me to tell you what is happening in the NEET exam that is being conducted due to your stubbornness. Therefore, please declare that there is no NEET exam. That is enough. Will you do this, Modiji?" he added.
