Hitachi Construction Machinery has announced plans to establish a Global Development Center (GDC) in Hubballi-Dharwad, employing 200 engineers by 2027.
“Dharwad was chosen over several international locations, including Southeast Asia, reflecting Karnataka’s growing prominence as a global manufacturing hub. Hitachi’s existing Dharwad facility already serves as a key export base for the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia,” said a statement from state industries department.

Led by MB Patil, Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, Karnataka’s delegation engaged leading Japanese firms to attract investments, showcasing the state as India’s premier destination for advanced manufacturing and innovation.
During meetings, the delegation highlighted Karnataka’s investor-friendly ecosystem and incentives under the state’s new Industrial Policy, encouraging Hitachi to expand exports and launch new product lines from the state.
Another highlight was the discussion with Asahi Kasei. The delegation welcomed Asahi Kasei Advance’s announcement to set up an airbag components facility in Bengaluru, aligning with Karnataka’s booming automotive sector. Minister Patil congratulated the company and encouraged exploring other sectors such as textiles, electronics, and chemicals, where the group holds global expertise.
In talks with Renesas, a global semiconductor leader, the delegation reinforced Karnataka’s position as India’s semiconductor capital, with a strong R&D and electronics manufacturing ecosystem. Renesas said that its Bengaluru R&D facility has become its largest in India, housing more than half of its workforce engaged in advanced R&D and embedded software. The state also invited Renesas to explore Mysuru for its next R&D centre, emphasising the city’s innovation ecosystem and academic strengths.
The delegation also engaged Yamaha Robotics, urging the company to establish a local manufacturing unit in Bengaluru to serve India’s growing market, rather than relying on imports.
