Jammu witnessed a citywide blackout on Friday evening, accompanied by the sound of sirens and explosions, news agency PTI reported citing officials. The officials said that Pakistani drones are being engaged in Jammu, Samba and Pathankot.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah confirmed the situation, noting that intermittent blasts, likely from heavy artillery, were audible in the area. He urged residents to remain indoors and avoid spreading unverified information.

In Srinagar, mosque loudspeakers advised locals to switch off their lights as a precautionary measure.

This follow India's recent Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror hideouts in Pakistan earlier this week. In retaliation, Pakistan has engaged in ongoing shelling, leading to heightened tensions between the two nations.

The Indian Army reported that multiple attacks using drones and other munitions along the western border were effectively repulsed.
