With the BJP’s organisational changes and the appointment of a new party president in focus, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat dismissed Sangh’s role in the process.
His remarks came as he addressed the third day of the RSS centenary lecture series, “100 years of Sangh’s Journey: New Horizons”.
Responding to questions whether RSS decides everything, including who will be the next BJP president, Bhagwat stated, “If we were to decide, would it have taken this long?”
On being asked whether there are any difference between the Sangh and BJP, he said that while there could be some contradictions, but there’s no quarrel.
“We are having good coordination with every government, both state and central government. But, there are systems which have some internal contradictions. The system in general is the same, which was invented by the British so that they can rule. There is no quarrel anywhere,” he said.
The saffron party continues to face delays over the election of its national president – which has been further pushed due to the upcoming vice-presidential election necessitated by the sudden resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar.
On democratic imbalance
Bhagwat cited conversion and illegal migration as key reasons behind demographic imbalance and said while the government is trying to curb illegal immigration, society also needs to do its part.
He asserted that religion is by individual choice and there should be no allurement or force in this.
"Conversion and illegal migration are key reasons for demographic imbalance. We should not give jobs to illegal immigrants; we should give jobs to our own people, including Muslims," he said.
The RSS sarsanghchalak was asked about the Sangh’s view on illegal infiltration.
"The government is trying to curb illegal immigration, but society also needs to do its part. Religion is by individual choice; there should be no allurement or force in this," he said.
