The simmering weather is here to stay in the eastern part of India, for at least next five days, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast.
Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over parts of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, eastern Uttar Pradesh and Odisha between April 22 and April 26, said the Met Office, sending out alerts that some parts of Gangetic West Bengal will experience severe heatwave conditions.
Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar too will feel the heat for the next five days, while heat conditions will reign over Jharkhand during April 25-26, the IMD said. There are forecasts of temperatures soaring beyond 40 degrees Celsious in Odisha and West Bengal on April 22.
The weather department also predicted that hot and humid conditions will be experienced by sub-Himalayan West Bengal, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, coastal Karnataka, Mahe and Kerala between April 22 and 26.
The agency said around 20 districts in Telangana might witness heat conditions and people should avoid going out between 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm on April 22. It also advised people to avoid alcohol, tea, coffee and carbonated soft drinks or drinks with large amounts of sugar as they lead to loss of fluids in the body and may cause stomach cramps.
On April 21, some of these regions saw heatwave conditions with temperatures hovering on 42-45 degrees Celsius.
Some of the states have taken precautions to battle the heatwave conditions. According to reports, Odisha has announced start of summer vacations from April 25 for schools in the state, while Jharkhand has changed timings from April 22 for now.
The Weatherman, however, left some hopes of a breather at the end with forecasts of moderate rainfall along with thunderstorm, lightning and gutsy wind in some areas. Moderate rainfall is expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram. Some parts of West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand are also likely to experience moderate rainfall over the next five days.
