Two days after a deadly bomb blast near Delhi’s Red Fort left at least 12 dead and over 20 others inured, the government on Wednesday termed the incident a 'terrorist act', ending the prevailing ambivalence regarding the nature of the explosion and modalities surrounding the blast.
Minutes after the completion of the emergency meeting of Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence, Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, addressing the press, said India condemns all acts of terrorism in the strongest possible terms. Vaishnaw was addressing the press after the conclusion of the all-import security related meeting.
"The country has witnessed a heinous terrorist incident perpetrated by anti-national forces through a car explosion near Red Fort on 10th November...The Cabinet directs that the investigation into the incident be pursued with utmost urgency and professionalism, so that the perpetrators, their collaborators and their sponsors are identified and brought to justice without delay...."
Additionally, the Cabinet extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured. It also appreciated the efforts of medical personnel and emergency responders who provided immediate assistance to the victims.
Calling the blast a “dastardly and cowardly act,” the Cabinet reaffirmed India’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It also acknowledged the expressions of solidarity and support received from various governments across the world. The Cabinet commended the timely and coordinated response of security agencies, authorities, and citizens who acted with courage and compassion during the crisis.
The Cabinet also directed that the investigation into the incident be pursued with the utmost urgency and professionalism so that the perpetrators, their collaborators, and their sponsors are identified and brought to justice without delay. "The situation continues to be closely monitored at the highest levels of the government," read a Cabinet note on the Delhi blast.
Earlier today, PM Modi visited the injured at the LNJP Hospital and inquired about their health condition. After visiting the injured, Modi vowed that those behind the blast will be brought to justice. “Went to LNJP Hospital and met those injured during the blast in Delhi. Praying for everyone’s quick recovery. Those behind the conspiracy will be brought to justice!,” the prime minister said in a post on X.
