Turning long train travel into an entertainment opportunity, the Indian Railways’ app, RailOne, has introduced free OTT streaming for passengers.
The app, developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), was launched on July 1. The user-friendly app is a comprehensive platform built to serve the diverse needs of Indian train passengers. It now offers free OTT (Over-The-Top) entertainment, allowing travelers to enjoy a wide variety of movies, web series, documentaries, audio programs, and games during their journey.
RailOne also delivers a diverse range of live TV, on-demand videos, music, gaming, and even e-commerce services, all under one digital roof.
The app already offered essential passenger services such as unreserved (UTS) ticketing, live train tracking, ticket booking, grievance redressal, e-catering, porter booking, and last-mile taxi services, making it a comprehensive digital companion for rail travelers.
Now, with the addition of Prasar Bharati’s WAVES OTT platform, it is expanding its scope beyond logistics into leisure, according to a report by the Financial Express.
With content available in over 10 Indian languages, WAVES OTT caters to passengers across the country’s diverse linguistic and cultural spectrum.
How to use RailOne app?
To stream, users need to simply log in with their mPIN or biometric authentication, navigate to the ‘More Offerings’ section, and select ‘Go To Waves’.
A new page will open, giving you access to a wide variety of free entertainment content right on your mobile device. The service is free for passengers during their train journey.
