Back on Earth after her 278-day stay at the International Space Station, NASA astronaut Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore openly interacted with media for the first time on Tuesday. From what they ate after returning home to future of Boeing’s Starliner to politics around their rescue mission, the astronauts answered flurry of questions. Williams, whose father is from India, gave a beautiful description about how the country looks from space. She also said that she will be visiting India “for sure.”
“India is amazing,” Williams said as she went on talking about incredible views of the majestic Himalayas. “Every time we went over the Himalayas, we got some incredible pics.” She also spoke about the topography of Earth’s youngest mountain range. “It happened like a ripple and flows down into India.” On her plans ahead, Williams said, “India is a wonderful democracy, a great country. I think I am going back to my father's home country for sure."
Williams and Butch were in the space for 278 days after the Starliner’s thruster malfunctioned. However, during their presser, both NASA veterans rebuffed that stranded stance and said that they never felt that they were stuck in space.
Williams also lauded India’s space programme and said that she hopes to meet Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, who is part of Gaganyaan mission and will be flying into space on another private space programme – Axiom-4 soon.
