Delhi Police have expanded their investigation into the November 10 Red Fort blast by issuing notices to every private hospital in the capital, seeking information on doctors trained abroad -- specifically those who completed their MBBS degrees in Pakistan, Bangladesh, China and the UAE, according to IANS.
Officials said hospital administrations have been directed to provide names and credentials of such doctors currently employed in their facilities.
This step follows new leads emerging from what investigators call a widening “white-collar” terror module linked to the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
The car explosion near the Red Fort metro station on November 10 killed 13 and left dozens injured, triggering a multi-layered probe involving local police, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and enforcement bodies.
The blast involved a Hyundai i20 allegedly driven by Dr Umar Muhammad, and, as officials put it, unravelled a network that combined professional covers and radical operations. Police teams working across states subsequently detained multiple individuals, including medical professionals accused of assisting the group.
As the investigation deepened, officers recovered 2,900 kilograms of explosives, a discovery that they said connected this attack to earlier detentions made by inter-state units.
The NIA, which has taken over the case, has so far arrested seven people. Among them are Dr Muzammil Shakeel of Pulwama, Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather from Anantnag, Dr Shaheen Saeed of Lucknow, and Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay from Shopian.
Officials familiar with the case stated that these individuals played significant roles in orchestrating” the strike, allegedly aiding the logistics and planning behind the deadly explosion, according to Financial Express.
Alongside the terror-linked arrests, financial investigators have begun scrutinising Al Falah University.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is examining a land acquisition in Madanpur Khadar, south-east Delhi, tied to the institution’s founder and chairman, Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui. The ED claims he obtained valuable land through “forged documents issued in the names of people long dead.”
The university has drawn attention after three of its doctor-faculty members were arrested in connection with the same module, prompting investigators to look more closely at the institution’s leadership and financial dealings.
With the probe widening in several directions, the accused already in custody -- Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganai, Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather, Dr Shaheen Saeed, and Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay -- were produced before Patiala House Court on Saturday after completing their 10-day remand with the NIA.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police’s latest notices to hospitals mark another layer of scrutiny, as agencies attempt to map out every professional link that could connect to the network uncovered after the blast.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena had directed the Police Commissioner and Chief Secretary to enforce stricter rules on the sale of ammonium nitrate following the blast.
The Delhi Police have been asked to maintain a digital record of entities purchasing and selling ammonium nitrate beyond a certain threshold, including photograph of buyers and sellers.
The administration has also been told to build a central database of medical professionals -- doctors as well as para-medical workers -- employed across hospitals, particularly private ones.
This repository is to include details of degrees held by each practitioner. For those trained abroad, the LG has ordered that the information be shared with the police so that “secondary background checks” can be carried out.
