A 14-year-old Class 8 student of a private school in Hyderabad died by suicide on Saturday after allegedly being reprimanded and slapped by a teacher, police said.
The incident occurred around 9.30 am when the Physical Education teacher reportedly scolded the boy in front of other students for allegedly turning the direction of a CCTV camera. Following this, the student jumped from the school building.
The student was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival, police said. Some students told the media that the teacher had slapped the boy.
A handwritten note, purportedly written by the student, was found in his book, in which he apologised to his mother for taking his life, reported the Indian Express, quoting police.
A case has been registered on charges of abetment to suicide, and further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, in the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) student suicide case, the Odisha government summoned the founder Achyuta Samanta to appear before it last week. Samanta is expected to provide evidence and documentation related to the incident.
