The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit a fresh status report by September 17 in connection with the brutal rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
The court's directive comes as the investigation into the tragic death continues to garner national attention. A bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud issued the order while hearing the case on Monday.

>> The CBI has been asked to submit a status report by September 17.
>> The Supreme Court noted that there was a delay of "at least 14 hours" in filing the FIR in the Kolkata trainee doctor's rape-murder case.
>> The apex court highlighted a 14-hour delay in filing the FIR in the case of the Kolkata trainee doctor's rape and murder.
>> CJI Chandrachud remarked that CCTV footage shows the accused, Sanjay Roy, entering and exiting the seminar room where the alleged rape and murder occurred.
>> Solicitor General Mehta highlighted inadequate accommodation for female CISF personnel, noting that three companies of CISF women had to travel 1.5 hours due to lack of proper housing.
>> The court directed the West Bengal government to provide accommodation to CISF personnel near RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and ensure that necessary gadgets for the CISF are provided by 9 pm on September 9.
>> CJI Chandrachud also remarked that the "missing" challan document is essential for post-mortem procedures and cannot be bypassed, while Advocate Sibal admitted he could not immediately locate it but assured its submission later.
>> The CJI ordered the removal of all pictures of the victim from social media platforms.
>> The bench stated that the circulation of the photographs has caused harm, stating, "Damage has been done by circulation of these photographs."
>> A Bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud stated that public comments on the investigation were inappropriate and the court did not wish to influence the ongoing probe.
