However, PDP’s Mehdi is leading by 1,091 votes. The bypoll was held after Omar Abdullah resigned the seat, choosing to keep Ganderbal. Nagrota too showed early movement, with BJP’s Devyani Rana comfortably ahead; the NC has fielded Shamim Begum after the death of BJP MLA Devender Singh Rana, who passed away “within a fortnight of taking the oath.”
Punjab’s Tarn Taran constituency, which voted on November 11 following the death of AAP MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal in June 2025, recorded an early lead for AAP’s Harmeet Singh Sandhu in a four-cornered contest against Congress’s Karanbir Singh, BJP’s Harjit Singh Sandhy and SAD candidate Sukhwinder Kaur. Sandhu is leading by 3, 668 votes.
From Rajasthan’s Anta, Congress candidate Pramod Jain “Bhaya” led by 246 votes after the first of 20 rounds, who continues to lead. The bypoll there followed the disqualification of BJP MLA Kanwar Lal Meena after a conviction in a 2005 case. In Mizoram’s Dampa, MNF’s R Lalthangliana pulled ahead in early counting.
In Jharkhand’s Ghatshila, the main fight is between Babulal Soren, son of former Chief Minister Champai Soren, and Mahagathbandhan nominee Somesh Chandra Soren who is leading. Meanwhile, Odisha’s Nuapada seat -- vacated after the death of BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia -- has BJP’s Jay Dholakia facing BJD’s Snehangini Chhuria and Congress’s Ghasiram Majhi. By-elections were conducted on November 11 across eight assembly constituencies in six states and one Union Territory (UT). The assembly seats are: Budgam and Nagrota in Jammu and Kashmir, Anta in Rajasthan, Ghatsila in Jharkhand, Jubilee Hills in Telangana, Tarn Taran in Punjab, Dampa in Mizoram and Nuapada in Odisha. Alongside the Bihar assembly elections, the results for these by-elections will also be announced on November 14. The counting of votes will begin from 8 am onwards.
