Iltija Mufti, daughter of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, is making her electoral debut from the seat as a People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate.
She is up against Bashir Ahmad Shah (Veeri) of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC), a familiar name who has been the runner-up in the past two elections (2014 and 2008). The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Sofi Yousuf, its Jammu and Kashmir vice president.
In the 2014 elections, this seat was won by Abdul Rehman Bhat of the PDP, who defeated Veeri of the NC by a margin of 2,868 votes. The 2024 elections are notable as they are the first since the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir into a Union Territory. The results for this important constituency will be declared on October 8, 2024, along with the results of the other 89 constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir.
