The Bihar election result 2025 will be declared on Friday. The state completed its polling in two phases across all 243 assembly constituencies on November 6 and 11, respectively.
Bihar saw an overall voter turnout of 66.91%, which is a record in its electoral history. The turnout in the first phase was 65.08% and it was then surpassed by the figure for the second phase, which was 68.76%.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said, in all the elections that have been held since 1951, highest voting percentage was recorded in 2025.
During the counting of votes for all 243 assembly constituencies, the electoral fate of over two thousand 600 candidates will be known.
The prime contest was between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the opposition’s Mahagathbandhan (INDIA bloc). The current assembly has 131 seats from the NDA – BJP (80), JD(U) (45), HAM(S) (4), and there is support from two Independents.
What did exit polls predict?
Several exit polls by agencies such as Matrize, JVC, Chanakya Strategies, TIF Research, P-Marq, People's Insight, Dainik Bhaskar, DV Research and People's Pulse have predicted a landslide victory for the ruling NDA alliance.
The News18 Mega Exit Poll predicted that the BJP will win 55-65 seats in both phases of the Bihar election, while the JD(U) will win 60-70 seats. In the Mahagathbandhan camp, the RJD is expected to win 50-60 seats and the Congress will go home with only 15-20 seats.
What happened in 2020?
In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, the NDA secured a majority in the 243-member Assembly, largely powered by the BJP’s 74 seats. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) contested 115 seats but managed to win only 43. On the other hand, RJD secured 75 seats in the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, while Congress managed to register a victory in 19 seats.
How will the votes be counted?
First, the postal ballots will be counted from 8 am on Friday. These ballots are only used by select groups, including people with disabilities, or those involved in essential services including security forces and some government officials.
After paper ballots, votes recorded in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) will be counted. While trends should begin emerging by noon, a clearer picture is expected to be available in the late afternoon.
Results are announced for each constituency as soon as counting is completed. India follows the first past-the-post system. A candidate with the highest number of votes wins.
