Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is planning to redevelop the iconic Kempegowda Bus Station (KBS) at Majestic in Bengaluru into an Intermodal Transport Hub (IMTH).
KSRTC has floated a tender to appoint a transaction advisor to guide the project, which will be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

The Majestic area is a major mobility node, with KSRTC and BMTC bus stands, KSR Bengaluru City railway station and Kempegowda Majestic interchange stations, all located in proximity. The proposed intermodal hub will be developed on around 40 acres of land, covering Terminals 1, 2, and 3 of the existing KSRTC bus station.
"Commuters now face challenges while switching between different transport modes at Majestic due to poor connectivity, overcrowding, and lack of integration," said a senior KSRTC official.
"The redevelopment aims to create a seamless transit experience, integrating city, intercity, metro, and railway services, while also accommodating commercial development to generate revenue," as per the tender document.
The consultant will prepare a Detailed Feasibility Report (DFR), including site and traffic assessments, demand forecasting, environmental and social impact studies, and market analysis. The selected firm will also prepare architectural concept plans, zoning, cost estimates, and financial models.
"A key objective is to design a terminal that reduces congestion, ensures better passenger flow, and supports non-fare revenue through commercial establishments like retail, offices, and food courts," it said.
"They will also develop implementation and phasing plans, identify funding sources, and evaluate risk-sharing mechanisms to ensure financial and operational sustainability," it added.
The project will draw from best practices and case studies of similar multimodal hubs in India and abroad. It will emphasise green infrastructure, smart mobility, and inclusive access, including features for persons with disabilities.

Meanwhile, KSRTC has floated tenders for selecting vendors to supply and maintain AIS-140 compliant devices for its buses, establish a Command Control Centre under a central assistance scheme, supply and maintain front dash and saloon cameras for buses, and procure body-worn cameras.
In the 2025-26 budget, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that Kempegowda Bus Station will be redeveloped through a public-private partnership, and a new satellite bus station will be set up in KR Puram under the same model. Inaugurated on June 2, 1969, Bengaluru’s Kempegowda Bus Station, or Majestic, was built on Subhash Nagar, once home to the historic Dharmambudhi Kalyani tank from Kempegowda II’s era.
