Karnataka deputy CM DK Shivakumar on November 18 said state government will build an international complex to house global business houses in Bengaluru.
Speaking at Bengaluru Tech Summit (BTS) 2025, he said the initiative is part of a broader plan to position the city as a global business and investment destination. “We are building an international complex for housing all international business houses,” he said.
He added that the government will establish a separate secretariat for NRIs to streamline services and coordination. “Residential layouts dedicated to NRIs are also being planned” he said.
Shivakumar further announced that Karnataka is working on a world-class AI City spread over 9,000 acres near Bidadi and is considering a second airport in South Bengaluru to cater to the city’s rapid expansion.
The deputy CM said the state is spending more than Rs 1 lakh crore on Bengaluru’s infrastructure. He listed several mega projects including a 40-km twin tunnel project costing Rs 42,500 crore, a 41-km double-decker metro line worth Rs 18,000 crore, a 110-km elevated corridor project costing Rs 15,000 crore, 320 km of buffer roads at a cost of Rs 5,000 crore, a Rs 500-crore sky deck, and the 74-km Bengaluru Business Corridor estimated at Rs 27,000 crore.
“Bengaluru Tech Summit 2025 marks the 28th edition of Karnataka’s flagship technology event, which began as BangaloreIT.com in 1998. The event was rebranded as the Bengaluru Tech Summit in 2018 and is now considered the largest technology summit in Asia. For the first time, the summit has shifted from Bengaluru Palace to the Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre (BIEC)” said Shivakumar adding that the event reaffirms Bengaluru’s position as the IT capital of India.
Highlighting Karnataka’s pioneering role in the technology sector, he said the state’s rise as an IT powerhouse did not happen by accident. Karnataka was the first in the country to formulate an IT policy in 1997 and the first to establish a dedicated IT Department during the tenure of former CM SM Krishna.
He said Bengaluru’s strength lies in its people and talent, supported by the country’s highest concentration of engineering, medical and paramedical institutions. Strong infrastructure, he said, is essential for this ecosystem to thrive, which is why the state government is accelerating development across the city at 'unprecedented speed.'
