Bengaluru woke up to unexpected downpour today morning as the city is likely to witness heavy rainfall this week, the Indian Meteorological Department said.
Bengaluru’s observatory has already recorded 72mm of rainfall in October.
As per the IMD report, along with Bengaluru, Chikballapura and Kolar districts are also likely to receive heavy rains this week.
Heavy rains also elevated traffic issues in the city, as many roads get submerged after a brief rain.
The heavy rainfall warning in Karnataka is due to a low-pressure system developing over the southeastern Bay of Bengal, leading to unstable weather conditions.
As per IMD, a yellow alert is in place for Bengaluru Urban on October 16-17, warning of possible heavy rains.
Yellow alert was also issued for various districts in Karnataka including Ramanagara, Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, and Kodagu.
IMD data stated that Bengaluru witnessed the driest September in recent times with very little rainfall. This September, the city surpassed previous weather records by accounting for only 23.9 mm of rain, making it the second driest month of the year in the city’s history and the fifth driest since rainfall records began in the late 1800s.
