Bengaluru Metro services between MG Road and Indiranagar on the Purple Line were disrupted on June 2 due to a tree falling on the track.
"Namma Metro trains are operating only between Indiranagar and Whitefield and between MG Road and Challaghatta from 7:26 pm due to a tree branch falling on the track just after Trinity station towards MG Road. BMRCL is taking steps to clear the branch and resume normal operations," said a Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) spokesperson.
"There are no Metro train services between MG Road and Indiranagar stations. As of now, short loops are running between Indiranagar and Whitefield, as well as between Challaghatta and MG Road," he said.
BL Yashavanth Chavan, Chief Public Relations Officer of told Moneycontrol: 'The loco pilot in the train moving towards MG Road spotted a tree that had fallen onto the track just after Trinity station. He alerted the operations team, and the train was reversed to Trinity Station. Passengers were asked to disembark, and their fare was refunded. Our workers are on-site assessing whether the incident damaged the third rail and track.
In April 2024, BMRCL had floated a tender to trim around 750 tree branches along the Purple Line from Whitefield to Challaghatta and the Green Line from Nagasandra to Silk Institute as part of its pre-monsoon exercise. In 2018, Metro services between Yelachenahalli and RV Road were disrupted for 90 minutes after a tree branch fell on the track between Jayanagar and Lalbagh stations, damaging the third rail which supplies power for the trains.
