Bengaluru Metro's Purple Line (Challaghatta-Whitefield) faced delays on Tuesday morning, leaving many office-goers stranded.
A BMRCL statement at 10:41am said: "Due to a technical problem in a train that was held up in the section between Vijayanagar and Hosahalli at 9:15am, train services on the Purple Line between Kempegowda (Majestic) and Chellagatta were temporarily stopped. This has also led to a cascading effect, resulting in the regulation of train services on the Green Line".
"Train services on the Purple Line up to Mysuru Road have been normalised at 10:15am. Services between Mysore Road and Chellagatta are expected to be restored by 11am. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to our valued Namma Metro commuters and appreciate your understanding and cooperation", it said.
At many stations, security guards shut the station gates to prevent more passengers from entering and to avoid further crowding
A display on one of the Metro trains read: “This train is delayed due to technical reasons. Further updates will be given shortly. Kindly bear with us.”
According to sources, services were disrupted due to a technical fault in one of the trains, caused by a power supply switch tripping. A train was reportedly stuck between Hosahalli and Vijayanagar stations. "The power supply switch tripped inside the train," a source told Moneycontrol.
