Bengaluru Metro Phase 2 is now likely to be completed by September 2026, with the Pink Line, the last corridor, opening in two phases.
According to a statement by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) on August 10, 7.5 km elevated section from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere of the Pink Line (Reach-6) will now be commissioned by March 2026, while the 13.8 km underground section connecting Dairy Circle to Nagawara is expected to be completed by September 2026.
Earlier plans aimed to open the elevated section by September 2025, and underground section by June 2026.

BMRCL records show that delays have pushed Phase 1’s cost from Rs 6,395 crore in 2005 to Rs 14,133 crore, and Phase 2’s from Rs 26,405 crore in 2014 to Rs 40,614 crore in 2024.
Phase 1 of Bengaluru Metro covers 42 km and is fully operational. Phase 2 now has an operational length of 53.8 km out of a sanctioned length of 72.095 km. As of June 30, 2025, physical progress stands at 94.50 percent, while financial progress is at 91.66 percent.
“The proposed Phase 3A corridor, spanning 36.58 km from Sarjapura to Hebbal, is estimated to cost Rs 28,405 crore. BMRCL has prepared the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this corridor, but it has been returned to the state government for a cost review in accordance with MoHUA’s benchmarking guidelines,” MoHUA said in a statement.
“The state government is urged to expedite this review and resubmit the DPR for approval. Further, the state government is requested to draft a long-term master plan for future Metro corridors in Bengaluru to address the city’s ongoing congestion and traffic challenges,” it said.

Further, the statement said, “Since 2014, Rs 27,209 crore has been released to BMRCL for Bengaluru Metro projects under various heads. In the current financial year, Rs 2,217 crore has been allocated to BMRCL, of which Rs 544 crore has already been released. There are no pending fund demands from BMRCL, and funds have been disbursed in a timely manner.”
Bengaluru Metro Phase 2A and 2B together cover a length of 58.19 km at an estimated cost of Rs 14,788.10 crore. “Phase 2A stretches from Central Silk Board to KR Pura (19.75 km), while Phase 2B runs from KR Pura to airport via Hebbal (38.4 km). As of June 30, 2025, physical progress in these phases is 52.5 percent, and financial progress is 55.8 percent,” it said.
Phase 3, with a total length of 44.6 km and a cost of Rs 15,611 crore, had its foundation stone laid on August 10, 2025. This phase includes a 32.1 km stretch from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura along Outer Ring Road West, and a 12.5 km stretch from Hosahalli to Kadabagere along Magadi Road.
Several key sections in Phase 2 have been commissioned recently. Reach-1 Extension from Krishnarajapuram to Whitefield (Kadugodi), covering 13.7 km, was commissioned on March 25, 2023. The stretch from Byappanahalli to Krishnarajapuram (2 km), was commissioned on October 9, 2023. Reach-2 Extension from Mysuru Road to Kengeri (7.53 km), was commissioned on August 29, 2021, while the section from Kengeri to Challaghatta (2 km) was completed on October 9, 2023. Reach-3 Extension from Nagasandra to Madavara (3.14 km) was launched on November 17, 2024. Reach-4 Extension from Yelachenahalli to Silk Institute (6 km) was inaugurated on January 14, 2021. Yellow Line, from RV Road to Bommasandra (19 km), commenced operations on August 10, 2025.
