A 17-year-old son of a Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) scientist was arrested in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday for allegedly killing his mother over a dispute and painting it as an "accidental fall".

According to the police, the deceased, Aarti Verma, was pushed by her son, a class 11 student, who hit her head on a wall on December 3.

The minor son had been misleading his father, who is based at Kalpakkam in Tamil Nadu, saying that his mother died of a fall.

As per a NDTV report, the incident was revealed after a detailed investigation was conducted. "After two hours of questioning, the teenager admitted that he pushed his mother during an argument, leading to a fatal head injury," the police officer said.
