INC wins four out of the six seats in Kerala's Cochin region

Kerala turned out to be a Congress stronghold in the past election. In the 2019 polls, the Indian National Congress (INC) secured a majority of the seats in the state, while the NDA failed to win a single one.

The Indian National Congress (INC) won in the Cochin region of Kerala, which is home to six out of the 20 Lok Sabha constituencies of Kerala. Data from the Election Commission of India (ECI) showed that won in four out of the six seats with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) each winning one constituency.

The region, where the six constituencies have the majority of the Christian population, has some of the top candidates like actor turned politician Suresh Gopi who won from the BJP ticket.

The region has been a heavy weight for the INC with the party winning all the seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. But this year, INC could only win four of the six seats.

The 2024 Lok Sabha elections are crucial for both the Indian National Congress (INC) and the NDA in Kerala. With 20 Lok Sabha constituencies in contention, the state saw polling on April 26, achieving a voter turnout of 70.35%, down from 77.84% in 2019.
