387 products brought under quality control since 2014, 675 more products under consideration: Piyush Goyal

The country has already notified a total of 115 QCOs yet and QCOs on as many as 675 products in 14 ministries are currently under consideration. QCOs under development include norms on drones and electronic vehicles

As many as 101 Quality Control Orders (QCOs) covering 387 products have been notified for compulsory BIS certification and implementation of Indian standards in the past eight years since 2014. This comes in stark contrast to the 14 QCOs that were issued in 28 years between 1987 and 2014, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said.

“The focus of the present government is on consumer safety and on stopping the import of substandard products into the country,” he said addressing a press conference in New Delhi on May 3.

The country has already notified a total of 115 QCOs yet and QCOs on as many as 675 products in 14 ministries are currently under consideration.

“The implementation of Indian Standards at the national level has been accorded a top priority by the government,” the minister added.
