In the lineup for the 2024 T20 World Cup, India has stacked their squad with four spin wizards, featuring the resurgence of Yuzvendra Chahal alongside Kuldeep Yadav, forming a potent wrist-spin duo. Adding to the spin arsenal are the versatile Axar Patel and the seasoned Ravindra Jadeja.
Anil Kumble, India's legendary wicket-taker across all formats and a former skipper and mentor, is firm on Kuldeep Yadav's inclusion for the opening clash against Ireland. Expressing uncertainty about the pitch conditions, Kumble emphasized Kuldeep's proficiency as a wrist spinner, hinting at his pivotal role in the game.
With the tournament spread across six venues in the West Indies and three in the USA, spinners are expected to dominate proceedings. Kumble anticipates a significant impact from spinners throughout the competition.
The 2024 T20 World Cup format divides 20 teams into four groups for the initial round. The top two from each group progress to the Super Eight stage, where teams are split into two groups based on their seeding. A1, B2, C1 and D2 finishers will be in one group, while A2, B1, C2 and D1 will be slotted in the other group. Top two sides from two groups of the Super eight will advance to the semifinals. The semifinals will be held in Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago on June 26 and 27 respectively, while the final will be held in Barbados on June 29.
