Business Wire IndiaBangalore based Travel Company, Via.com, revealed that an increasing number of Indians are swapping a homebound Diwali celebration for a quick getaway to their favorite holiday locales.
Via.com analyzed flight, hotel and holiday booking trends for a period of 10 days before and after Diwali (November 11th 2015). The report confirms that a large number of Indians are starting to incorporate shorter trips into their existing holiday calendar, instead of taking a long leave from work to go on extended vacations.
According to the company’s spokesperson, around 30% of customers who booked flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai, also booked weekend getaways from the same destinations. The most popular weekend getaways during Diwali were Goa, Kodaikanal, Lonavla, Manali, Pondicherry, Gangtok, Jaipur and Digha.
Dubai, Thailand and Malaysia were the most booked international holiday packages on Via.com during Diwali. As part of the festive offers, Via.com is offering an exclusive Diwali Special Dubai Package at Rs. 49, 739. The 5 days package includes return air tickets, stay in a 4 star hotel, city tour, dhow cruise and desert safari.
Compared to last year, Via.com witnessed a 120% increase in advance booking for hotels during Diwali week; the company is also expecting a large number of last minute bookings during the first week of November. According to a Via.com source, the company intends to further drive festive season bookings by planning a Diwali Sale from November 4th to November 6th 2015 with big discounts and special deals on flights, hotels, holidays and bus bookings. Customers can receive the latest updates about the sale on Via.com's Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages.
The Diwali season bookings reiterated the rapid shift towards mobile platform with the Via Android app and iOS app accounting for 60% of the total flight and hotel bookings. For mobile hotel bookings, almost 60% of Indians preferred rooms in the price bracket of INR 3000 to INR 5000.
