Post Citi, veteran investment banker Ravi Kapoor has embarked on an entrepreneurial venture in his second innings by setting up a deal advisory and investment firm called SACS Partners, multiple industry sources with knowledge of the matter told Moneycontrol .
After an illustrious 18-year stint at Citi, Kapoor retired as Managing Director and Head of Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory, South Asia and India (BCMA) at the top investment bank which saw a rejig of senior roles.
Moneycontrol had reported the exit and transition plans on August 22.
"Kapoor has incorporated the new firm called SACS ( Strategic Advisory & Capital Solutions) Partners. It will focus on advisory work for clients including m&a, restructuring, private placements and exit advisory for financial sponsors and will also participate in fund management and investments in mid-sized firms," said one of the persons cited above .
A second person confirmed the above and told Moneycontrol that Kapoor was open to partner with others in the advisory and fund management world as part of the new venture.
"He has a wealth of experience and strong relationships with top management across sectors as well as the global and local fund universe. These plans should be announced shortly," the second person added.
Both the persons spoke to Moneycontrol on the condition of anonymity. Kapoor was unavailable for comment despite repeated attempts.
In a recent post on Linkedin announcing his departure from Citi, Kapoor said, " I am looking forward to my second professional innings with a desire to create an enterprise within the financial services industry, which can contribute to India's multi decade growth opportunity.'
He has more than 35 years of banking and capital markets experience and has led several marquee deals across equity capital markets, debt capital markets, mergers & acquisitions and acquisition financing.
Prior to joining Citi, he was Executive VP and Head of equity origination and capital markets at DSP Merrill Lynch, India.
Kapoor, a chartered accountant, started his career with ICICI Ltd in 1988 in the project finance division before moving to what was then the newly-formed investment banking subsidiary, ICICI Securities.
