Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath inaugurates Torrent Group's green hydrogen plant

The group said in a statement that the green hydrogen will be blended with natural gas in Torrent Gas' city gas distribution network in Gorakhpur, with a concentration of upto 2 percent.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a green hydrogen plant developed by Torrent Group firms Torrent Power and Torrent Gas at Gorakhpur, with the green hydrogen plant having a production capacity of 72 tonne per annum. The group said in a statement that the green hydrogen will be blended with natural gas in Torrent Gas' city gas distribution network in Gorakhpur, with a concentration of upto 2 percent.

"The green hydrogen blended with natural gas will be further supplied to domestic households, CNG (compressed natural gas) stations and industries in the region through the already laid network of natural gas pipelines. Torrent’s Green Hydrogen plant in Gorakhpur is the first Green Hydrogen plant in Uttar Pradesh and is also the largest Green Hydrogen and Natural Gas blending project in the city gas distribution sector in the country," according to the release.

Torrent Gas has a city gas distribution network permission from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) in the districts of Gorakhpur, Kushinagar and Sant Kabirnagar districts in Uttar Pradesh. The company has set up 32 CNG stations and supplies piped natural gas to more than 12,000 homes, as well as 73 commercial and industrial establishments, in the region.

"The state of Uttar Pradesh has a target of 1 mmtpa green hydrogen production for which it has set up a specific policy that will support potential investments in Uttar Pradesh. Greener and cleaner energy sources, with lower carbon emissions are critical for the progress of the country. With the inauguration of this plant, green hydrogen has become a part of the life of common people as it will directly reach their kitchens and vehicles," chief minister Adityanath said.
