TRAI tells all DTH operators to enable online payment system

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has asked all direct-to-home (DTH) operators to enable online payment system to promote digital transaction, according to an advisory.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has asked all direct-to-home (DTH) operators to enable online payment system to promote digital transaction, according to an advisory.

"DTH sector is a vibrant sector and has a large consumer base. Enabling bill payments in such sector, through digital means, would certainly provide convenience to consumers as well as it would be cost effective proposition for the service providers," TRAI said in the advisory.

The initiative would help in promoting a less-cash economy, it added.

The TRAI said DTH operators should enable online payment system using BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money), UPI (Unified Payments Interface) and Bharat QR code.
