Bharti Airtel’s biggest investor SingTel has raised some concerns on the proposed talks with Tata Group to buy their telecom assets.
CNBC-TV18 has learnt from the sources with direct knowledge of the development that SingTel has raised some questions relating to the rationale behind the deal between Bharti Airtel and Tata Tele along with Tata Communications and Tata Sky.
They have raised concerns about the huge debt that Tata Tele has as well as whether the combined package fits well in the Bharti Airtel’s portfolio.
As the consolidation in the telecom space is getting extremely competitive, Tata Group offered Tata Tele, Tata Communications and Tata Sky in a combined deal to make it attractive for Bharti Airtel.
In a response to CNBC-TV18, Tata Sons said it does not comment on market speculations.
SingTel, directly or indirectly, holds 36 percent stake in the Bharti Airtel.
