MC Exclusive: MahaRERA issues notices to over 5,000 delayed real estate projects in Maharashtra

Delayed projects, or projects that have not met the completion deadline might have to face a suspension or revocation of their registrations with RERA.

These notices were issued under Section 7 of the RERA Act. The notices are issued as there are several types of violations, from not uploading the latest quarterly progress reports (QPR)'s, to delaying project completion despite substantial booking and money collection etc, according to MahaRERA.

After suspending registrations of 388 projects in Maharashtra, the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has issued notices to over 5,000 real estate projects whose registrations have lapsed as a result of delays.

MahaRERA has warned these real estate developers to comply with rules and regulations of the RERA Act or face action in the form of suspension or revocation of their project registrations.

There are around 7,400 lapsed projects in Maharashtra.

"There are more than 7,000 lapsed projects in Maharashtra. Of these, around 5,000 projects had lapsed as of December 2022, and we have issued notices to developers of over 5,000 lapsed projects last week over non-compliance," a senior MahaRERA official, who did not wish to be named, told Moneycontrol.
