Piyush Goyal backs India's DPI to ramp up Africa's infra, healthcare needs

Goyal called for doubling trade between India and Africa to $200 billion from $100 billion in the next seven years to target a growth rate of 10 percent per year.

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has batted for the use of digital public infrastructure (DPI) developed in India to support Africa's endeavours in infrastructure, health, and financial inclusion.

"Can we look at the information technology sector driving deeper technology penetration in Africa... a technology driven partnership to further strengthen ties between India and Africa," Goyal said, as he identified six sectors for greater collaboration, including mining, food processing and MSME.

Speaking at the India-Africa Business Conclave on August 21, Goyal batted for expanding cooperation between both sides to attract more investments and increased trade.

Goyal also called for doubling trade between India and Africa to $200 billion from the present $100 billion in the next seven years, targetting a growth rate of 10 percent per year.
