Now, there is an even better option: you can link your RuPay credit card to your UPI app and pay directly from your credit card without needing to swipe it. This means you can scan any UPI QR code using apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, or BHIM, and choose your credit card to make the payment. It is safe, quick, and you can still earn reward points like you normally do with your credit card.

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is a real-time payment system developed by NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) that allows users to instantly transfer money between bank accounts using a mobile device.

What is a RuPay credit card on UPI?


RuPay credit cards can now be linked to UPI platforms, enabling users to make payments directly from their credit cards using UPI apps like BHIM, PhonePe, Google Pay and Paytm. This feature is currently exclusive to RuPay credit cards; Visa and Mastercard credit cards are not supported on UPI at this time

According to the NPCI website, at present 23 banks provide the facility to link RuPay Credit Cards on UPI.

How to link RuPay credit card with UPI apps?


  1. Install BHIM or any other UPI app from the Google Play Store.

  2. Launch the app and finish the registration process.

  3. Navigate to the account or payment methods section and tap on "RuPay Credit Card."

  4. Pick your card-issuing bank from the available list.

  5. The app will show masked credit cards linked to your registered mobile number.

  6. Choose the credit card you wish to connect.

  7. Verify and confirm your selection.

  8. Set your UPI PIN to complete the setup.

How to use RuPay credit card on UPI for payments


Once your RuPay credit card is linked to your UPI app, you can make payments as follows –

  1. Scan QR Code: At the merchant's point of sale, scan the UPI QR code using your UPI app.

  2. Enter the amount to be paid.

  3. Choose your linked RuPay credit card as the payment source.

  4. Enter your UPI PIN to authorise the payment.

  5. Upon successful payment, you will receive a confirmation message.

RuPay Credit Card transaction limits


For the first 24 hours after linking, transactions may be limited to Rs 5,000. Post 24 hours, the transaction limit can go up to Rs 1 lakh per day, subject to your credit card's available limit.
