Developers try to build everything in smaller piece of land to raise their profit margins in the fastest manner. In order to achieve this, a lot of technological advancement is made in the field of construction industry (materials and building process).
Basic components of high rise structure are,
1. Columns
2. Beams
3. Floor slabs
4. Walls
Main function of column in building is to transfer the load above  to the foundations. Now, beams are principally horizontal columns on which floor slabs rest and these beams are connected to columns for further load transfers. To create different spaces by division on floor slab, walls are used. Most of these building elements are made from reinforced cement and concrete (R.C.C). Due to advancement in building techniques, it’s now possible to build higher structures. Nowadays, regular cement is being replaced by high strength cement and bricks by cement block for improving quality and saving valuable time. Developers also use dry wall techniques and pre fabricated techniques to execute difficult designs and high end constructions. Ready mixed concrete is directly supplied to construction site, from supplier to maintain a similar quality of concrete for a whole building.
Prefabrication is getting very popular today  because important components of building can be made elsewhere and brought directly to the site for installation. In pre-casting, components are manufactured by industrial method on large scale thus bringing down the cost and time. Prefabrication can be done almost in every aspect of a building, right from columns, slabs and panelling (walls). They  not only make the construction  faster but also  easier to infuse technology. We can have hollow slabs and walls which are lighter and easy to install. They also have longer shelf life. Application of prefabrication process in construction requires a lot of planning.
In high-rise buildings, safety becomes an important aspect of design. Earthquakes are nature’s deadly forces which can strike anywhere without warning, often causing significant damage to life and property. Of all, multi storey buildings are the most affected. Apart from strictly following structural design for the building, new technologies like earthquake dampers are being used in high rise buildings. The installation of the dampers is easy and, they also ably reduce vibrations and dissipate maximum energy from earthquakes, thereby protecting the structure. It’s advisable to get building structure checked by a certified engineer before moving to a new high rise building.
