Ness Wadia sentenced to 2-year jail term in Japan on drug charge: Report

Business magnate Ness Wadia was served a two-year prison sentence for possession of drugs in Japan in March, which was later suspended for five years.

According to a Financial Times article, which reported on the matter on April 30, Wadia was found to be in possession of 25 grams of cannabis resin at the New Chitose Airport in the Japanese island of Hokkaido in March.

As per the report, Wadia admitted to possessing the drugs for personal consumption and that he was detained for a short period before a Japanese court announced the sentence on March 20. The report noted that the sentence was later suspended for five years.

A spokesperson from the Wadia group said Ness Wadia has since left Japan. "The judgement is clear. It's a suspended sentence. Hence, it won't impact Wadia in the discharge of any of his responsibilities."
