The stock market started the week on a positive note with the benchmark Nifty 50 extending gains for a third consecutive session on October 6, closing above the 25,000 level, led by IT and financials.
The indices started the day on a positive note and saw extended buying to take Nifty 50 past 25,000, settling near the day's high of 25,095.95. At close, the Sensex was up 582.95 points or 0.72 percent at 81,790.12, and the Nifty was up 183.40 points or 0.74 percent at 25,077.65. The BSE midcap index rose 0.7 percent while smallcap index ended marginally lower.

The GIFT Nifty is trading marginally lower at around 25,153.50, indicating a muted start for the day.
Asian Equities (Up)
Japanese shares extended their rally after the election of a pro-stimulus lawmaker as the country’s next leader sent the yen sliding and drove up yields of long-tenure bonds.
US Equities (Rise)
The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq advanced on Monday, as artificial intelligence-related dealmaking boosted investor sentiment even as the U.S. government shutdown extended through its sixth day.
The Nasdaq and the S&P 500 reached record closing highs, while the blue-chip Dow inched lower.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 63.31 points, or 0.14%, to 46,694.97, the S&P 500 gained 24.49 points, or 0.36%, to 6,740.28 and the Nasdaq Composite gained 161.16 points, or 0.71%, to 22,941.67.
US Bond Yield (Mixed)
The yield on 10-year Treasuries up marginally at 4.15 percent, while the 2-year Treasuries were were down at 3.58 percent.
Dollar Index (Flat)
The dollar index was unchanged against the other major currencies in the early trade on Tuesday.
Asian Currencies (Mixed)
Asian currencies were trading mixed with Indonesian Rupiah, South Korean Won, Japanese Yen, Philippines Peso, Thai Baht are trading lower, while Singapore Dollar, Taiwan Dollar, China Renminbi, Malaysian Ringgit were trading with marginal gains.
Crude (Flat)
Oil prices were steady on Tuesday, with sentiment toward a smaller-than-anticipated OPEC+ output hike dulled by weakening global demand and the potential for a supply glut.
Gold (Flat)
Gold raced to log a record high in early Asia hours trading on Tuesday, driven by economic uncertainty and as market participants saw possibilities of further rate cuts by the U.S. Federal Reserve.
Fund Flow Action
The Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) extended the selling on 10th consecutive session as they sold equities of Rs 313 crore on October 6, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) continued their buying in this month as they purchased equities of Rs 5036 crore on the same day.
