Benchmark indices started the week on a strong note after six weeks of negative close, erasing most of Friday's losses as bulls took the charge on August 11 with Nifty above 24,500 near the day's high on buying across sectors barring consumer durables.
At close, the Sensex was up 746.29 points or 0.93 percent at 80,604.08, and the Nifty was up 221.75 points or 0.91 percent at 24,585.05. The BSE Midcap index added 0.8 percent and Smallcap index rose 0.35 percent at close.

US Equities (Down)
Wall Street's main indexes ended lower on Monday as investors anxiously await inflation data this week to assess the outlook for interest rates and eye U.S.-China trade developments.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 200.52 points, or 0.45%, lower to 43,975.09, the S&P 500 lost 16.00 points, or 0.25%, to 6,373.45 and the Nasdaq Composite lost 64.62 points, or 0.3%, to 21,385.40.
US Bond Yield (Flat)
The yield on 10-year Treasuries and 2-year Treasuries were little changed in the opening trade on Tuesday.
Dollar Index (Flat)
The U.S. dollar held steady on Tuesday, with markets braced for a key consumer inflation report later in the day that could shape expectations for Federal Reserve interest rate cuts.
Asian currencies (Mixed)
Asian currencies were trading mixed against the US dollar in the early trade on Tuesday.
Crude (Up)
Oil prices rose on Tuesday as the United States and China extended a pause on higher tariffs, easing concerns an escalation of their trade war would disrupt their economies and crimp fuel demand in the world's two largest oil consumers.
Gold (Gains)
Gold held a loss after President Donald Trump said imports of bullion won’t be subject to US tariffs,
although traders were still waiting for formal clarification over the policy following a federal ruling last week that sowed chaos and confusion across the market.
Fund Flow Action
The Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold equities little more than Rs 1200 crore on August 11, while Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought equities worth Rs 5972 crore on the same day.
