Festive travel drives petrol sales to 5-month high; diesel demand stays flat in October

India’s petrol sales hit a five-month high in October, lifted by increased travel during the festive season, even as diesel consumption remained largely flat, according to preliminary industry data cited by ANI.

Petrol consumption rose 7 percent year-on-year to 3.65 million tonnes, up from 3.4 million tonnes in September, as the festival rush boosted demand from private vehicles and two-wheelers across cities and highways.

This marked one of the sharpest month-on-month jumps since May, reflecting the seasonal bump in personal mobility and intercity travel during the Durga Puja–Diwali period.
