On June 4, the Dutch parliament approved providing an unspecified amount of subsidies to the company to accelerate the renovation. External consultants estimate subsidies could reach $3.26 billion, according to a spokesperson for the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate, reported Bloomberg.

People living close to Tata Steel’s Dutch steelworks have a life expectancy that is 2.5 months lower than the average for the Netherlands due to the plant’s emissions, the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment said last year, reported Reuters.
