The Indian rupee opened at 44.44 per dollar versus 44.33 yesterday.

Pradeep Khanna, HSBC said that, "The rupee has been flat on account of a weak dollar and appreciating Asian currencies. The market is divided on the extent of rate hike by the RBI today. If RBI hikes rates by 50 bps, the rupee could test 44.15/$ level. However, in case of 25 bps hike, it could range between 44.25 - 44.50/$."
