Priyank Kharge, Karnataka minister for electronics, information technology & biotechnology and rural development & panchayat raj, on July 16 said that the state will soon introduce a new bioenergy policy to boost sustainable energy initiatives.
Speaking after chairing the annual general meeting of Karnataka Bio-fuel Development Board, Kharge said the state government had conducted a detailed review of the bioenergy sector and discussed the urgent need for a comprehensive policy.
“We had a focused discussion on the urgent need for a comprehensive Bioenergy Policy for Karnataka,” he said.
“Such a policy is not just about alternative fuel - it's about enhancing farmers’ income by creating market linkages for agri-residue and waste, generating green jobs in rural areas, encouraging sustainable energy practices, and helping us meet our net-zero and climate action goals.”
Kharge said the new policy will be rolled out in the coming months and is designed to transform Karnataka into a leader in clean, decentralised, and inclusive energy solutions that are driven by the farming community.
“The future of energy is circular, decentralized, and inclusive. And Karnataka is ready to lead the way,” he said.
