India Energy Week: Modi says nation set to become green hydrogen production, export hub

The ministry of new and renewable energy recently rolled out guidelines for green hydrogen pilots for steel and shipping sectors

India is set to emerge as the centre for green hydrogen production and the country’ renewable energy sector will help make both investors and industries "sure short winners", Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said.

The National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) will help the country in scaling up production and also export, Modi said on February 6 while inaugurating the second edition of India Energy Week 2024 (IEW) in Goa.

Green hydrogen is generated from electrolysis of water, with the entire process run on renewable energy. It is only considered green when the electricity used for the process comes from sustainable sources like solar or wind power generated on-site.
