As the calendar flips to November, employees across India find themselves standing at the intersection of anticipation and uncertainty. The festival season is just around the corner. However, what was once a period of unbridled excitement and eager planning for lavish feasts and vibrant gifts has now become a season of financial contemplation.

The looming expenses, from fireworks to sumptuous celebratory meals to an abundance of gift-giving, have cast a shadow of concern over these corporate warriors. Their hopes and aspirations hang in the balance as they wait with bated breath for their Diwali bonus—a financial lifeline that may not be assured.

A bonus is like extra money that companies can give to their workers as a reward for their hard work. But companies in India do not need to provide Diwali bonuses to every employee, as it's not mandatory, legal experts told Moneycontrol.

To be sure, there is no such designated bonus associated with Diwali as per law. It is rather a practice among most Indian corporations to hand over this extra sum ahead of Diwali.
