Elon Musk’s Starlink is gearing up for mega India launch. A latest NDTV Profit report says that the company will commence operations in India within next 12 months, the report said.
As part of the operations, Starlink will offer bandwidth with a speed of around 700 gigabytes per second to the customers, the report citing telecom department sources added.

In the first phase of the operations, the beaming capacity will cover somewhere between 30,000 and 50,000 customers across India. The company plans to beam 3 terabytes per second to its India users by 2027, the report further said. This would, however, require regulatory approvals. So far, sites for around three earth stations have been identified.
Each ‘Earth station’ will be used for nine gateways, the NDTV Profit report added. Simply put, these gateways are channels that connect the end user to the internet beaming from the satellites.
The company, which has signed B2B deals with Indian internet service providers – Reliance Jio, Vodafone, and Bharti Airtel – will launch various subscription models. While there will be the basic model, which will be routed via ISPs, Starlink will also offer DTC model for the customers, the report added. The direct-to-consumer model will be Stalink’s premium offering. Under this scheme, the customer will get personal ground station that would cost around Rs 50,000.
On April 16, Starlink's India market access director Parnil Urdhwareshe, vice president of business operations Chad Gibbs, and senior director for global licensing and market activation Ryan Goodnight met with Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal to expedite the approval process and outline plans for expanding operations in India.
