Travelling on Eastern peripheral Expressway could burn pockets of transporters as toll charges for the expressway are proposed to be higher than usual to provide better services to commuters.
As per the amount proposed by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) the per-kilometer charges are as follows:
| Vehicle | Per km toll rate for 2018-19 |
| Cars/Jeeps | Rs 1.384 |
| Light Commercial Vehicle | Rs 2.237 |
| Truck/Bus | Rs 4.687 |
| Heavy construction machinery (three axle vehicle) | Rs 5.113 |
| Four to six axle vehicles | Rs 7.350 |
| Oversized vehicles (> seven axle) | Rs 8.948 |
The toll proposed for the entire stretch stands at Rs 190 for cars and Rs 630 for trucks and buses.
Official said that the above mentioned charges have been proposed by NHAI to the union ministry of road transport and highways and are waiting final approval.
“The toll charges for this expressway are roughly 25 percent extra… However, due to point to point tolling provision, it wouldn’t cost much to the commuter,” the official said. “These are to ensure provision of better facilities along the expressway”.
The 135 km, six-lane fully access controlled expressway will be inaugurated by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on April 29, 2018.
The Rs 11,000 crore expressway has designated entry and exit points to keep a track of vehicles commuting via the e’way. Toll plazas are equipped with electronic toll collection system and have digital art gallery showcasing the engineering marvel of NHAI. The expressway also has miniatures of 36 monuments including Gate way of India, India gate, Chaar Minar, Ashoka Chakra etc.
Apart from Highway Traffic Management System (HTMS) that includes variable message signs (VMS) CCTV, video incident detection system (VIDS), warning devices, over speed checking system, weigh-in-motion, pavement management systems and fiber optic network, it will have real time incident management.
Along the expressway, wayside amenities are being developed at six locations (two at Bhaghpat and four near Noida) which will have the facility of petrol pumps, motels, rest areas, wash rooms, restaurants, shops, repair services etc. to cater the various needs of the expressway users.
The expressway, originating at Kundli and terminating at Palwal, covers industrial points like Bhaghpat, Ghaziabad, Meerut, et cetera and will approximately divert 52,000 trucks not bound to Delhi, thereby bringing down pollution levels in the national capital along with reducing traffic congestion.
