Agri crisis: Maha gov pledges low-interest loans to farmers

Khadse said that the government has asked Centre to increase the MSP and is also planning to provide farmers with higher subsidies for seeds

Maharashtra oppostion leader Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil hit out at the BJP-led Devendra Fadnavis government for not being serious on the issue of farmers' suicides. Patil also demanded the resignation of state agriculture minister Eknath Khadse.

Speaking to CNBC-TV18’s Shereen Bhan, Khadse said farmers suicide are due to different reasons and government is making all possible efforts to solve their woes.

The ministry has already provided Rs 4,200 crore to farmers along with Rs 7,000 crore, including subsidies. The government may also give fresh loans to farmers at subsidised rates.

Khadse said that the government has asked Centre to increase the minimum support price (MSP) and is also planning to provide farmers with higher subsidies for seeds.
