Plywood companies have also seen a good run ahead of goods and services tax (GST) as they are expected to benefit from the shift that GST will bring from unorganised to organised players and adding to that of course is government's focus on low cost housing.
In an interview to CNBC-TV18, Sajjan Bhajanka, Chairman of Century Plyboard spoke about the latest happenings in the company and in the sector.
He said that plywood and blockboard are under 28 percent slab. Industry has written to the government to reduce it.
He added that tax incidence on laminates reduced from 28 percent plus to 18 percent, is a positive. Tax on veneers reduced from 28 percent to 18 percent.
On business front, he said medium density fiberboard (MDF) plant's trial production should start in July. The plant will start in August 2017.
