In another development in the Ratan Tata-Cyrus Mistry saga, a senior director who sits on the board of several group companies has come out in support of Mistry to CNBC-TV18. The director told CNBC-TV18’s Ronojoy Bannerjee that Cyrus Mistry alone cannot be blamed for decisions of the board. The same opinion is shared by many other board of directors, the source added.Targetting Mistry alone was 'unfair', he said. Mistry, in a letter, had alleged that Tata Motor’s Nano has been kept alive due to emotional reasons despite recurring losses. However, the above source said that board of Tata Motors has repeatedly met previously to discuss revival and viability of Nano. The subject of Nano was discussed under tenure of both Ratan Tata and Mistry. Mistry was not alone on concerns over Nano, which the source said was not an emotional decision as it is not easy to shut down project of that magnitude. Mistry continues to be the chairman of Tata Motors board. “I see nothing new or nothing amiss in trying to find what was the discussion in Tata Motors so far pertaining to Nano,” said MR Venkatesh, Chartered Accountant and corporate governance expert. The larger question is whether the entire directors took the decision and whether Cyrus Mistry is the person solely responsible for the decision, that is the larger question, Venkatesh added.Watch video for more..
